History & Heritage in Neglect

June 20, 2020

For a people inhabiting a land full of history at each step, the way we have neglected it is something for history to record & lament!

Whatever the reason, it is a pathetic narrative of neglect & vested narrow self interest, though late to amend i still feel not all is lost!

Where there is a will there is a way so we grew up hearing, in this case the way is clear, only a will is needed to take the first step to the journey of a 1000 miles, before the road stretches by more miles!

Sharing some pictures to show what I mean!

The Clock Tower
Anarkali tomb, inaccessible to public, who would perhaps graffiti it!
The Baori (stair well) at Rohtas Fort
Rang Mahal Christian High School Lahore, heritage in neglect – education……
A portion of the original GT Road about 40 Km from Islamabad towards Peshawar!

The Lahore that lahore Was

September 10, 2015

my last blog about Lahore

I wish I could say “Lahore Lahore aie”, but then I would be unfaithful, both to Lahore and my memories of that city of my childhood

i joined the protest against shooting Malala on 14/10/12

October 15, 2012

yesterday, sunday 14 october 2012, at 4 pm, i stood at the liberty market roundabout in Lahore, Pakistan, as part of the protest march in favor of Malala Yousafzai holding her picture and placards. the protest was the culminating event of the two day Khudi-Pakistan Festival of Ideas 2012 http://www.khudipakistan.com/

as i stood with the almost 200 other participants and looked at the cars driving past, slowing, looking, some smiling, some waving, some shaking their head at another protest and drive away. i could not help wonder if they (the people in the cars) really had a clue of the trauma, pain, suffering, nightmares, that people who like Malala’s family have had to face in this continuing “war of terror” in silence, and torment.

and i prayed to Allah to have the people of Pakistan, saved so far from this exposure to remain safe and never have to face this.
