like the glass half …

June 25, 2011

the proverbial glass
perception bound
half full or
empty half
in the way of looking
lies the answer
you say.

still, perceptions aside
the glass
is half
just like the
measures taken
to try to stem
the rot.

another picket
one more drop-down
put a pop-up in place
one more arm waving
policeman to stop
not even looking fiery
but weary and glum.

another statement
changed later
and even retracted
more money doled
to the victims family
photo-ops for all
not even measures half.

but the glass
perceptions or none
is empty for them
not half
the cannot for the
love of job
see the half.

and the turmoil
emptying more
leaving in the wake
unrest, anger, angst
wanting revenge
not from the perpetrator
but now from someone else

the sad passive state
unfelt by those who
should feel
a harbinger of doom
and a dark gloom
needs to be stemmed
before the deluge!

sit, said the voice
i sat.
see said the voice,
i looked.
think said the voice,
i wondered.
speak said the voice,
and i could not.
for sitting had
deprived me of
and not seeing
i had lost reason
and thought
and was left
and then it came
to me in a frightening
those that be
and could not see
was it because
they sit in places high
and sitting, like me
are deprived
of sight
and speech.
but utter
to placate themselves
and prove
their existence
while all round them
everything falls
but they
behind their
high walls
deaf, blind, dumb,
outwardly smile
till the grim reapers
scythe in its arc
will take the
smile and leave
a glazed eye.

caught in a no-mans land
between a war
unsure if its
ours or theirs?
wondering why
we are losing
loved ones
all around,
with no abating in sight
afraid to even ask
when it will end?
for what if the answer is

dignity lost to brutality
throats parched,
silent grief,
eyes run dry,
who to turn to?
for God seems
to have forsaken
leaving us to
mop up in the wake
of another
ear shattering
heart rendering
dust rising

heard far and wide
causing people to pause
shake their head in
disbelief but a belief
oh no, not another one?
they groan
and get back to the mundane
task of eeking out the
daily sustenance for life
not knowing when
the next similar noise
will be where we are,
and like the others, we too
will be a statistic in another’s life!

Rulers see long anti-terror war

June 5, 2011

finally someone has had the sense to say what everyone knows!

ISLAMABAD: A top leader of the ruling alliance in Islamabad has ruled out the option of wiping out the menace of terrorism and extremism through dialogue and expects from the people of Pakistan to get ready for a decades-long fight against terror.

A credible source while citing his recent meeting with one of the top two leaders — President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani — disclosed that he was warned that the people of Pakistan must prepare themselves for a decades-long fight against terror.

Hello from Devon

June 4, 2011

heidi mailed me in november 2010, after she saw the city of fear documentary on channel 4, we have since been in touch, and her strength in fighting an illness has been a source of courage for me.

her latest mail is forwarded, the internet makes linking so easy, and intimate.

we all need the support of each other more today than before.

Dear Tahir,
Greetings from Devon and I hope this email finds you well and busy as ever.

They say your sins will find you out and it seems evil men recently, have found this to be true. There are a few more to go but Karma seems to be on a roll.

The challenge now is to re-educate those who were taught to hate. Take it one day at a time and we will succeed.

I have told so many people about you and your quest. Some because of their age, knew nothing of the situation. After we talked, they went away and educated themselves and then their own friends. Slowly the message is going right round this world of ours. It has already travelled from You to me and from me to my family in Australia and Canada. If this carries on in this vein, the truth about surviving and education will have infiltrated everywhere.

I keep seeing Gill on TV and the work she is doing. She gets quite a lot of press coverage here and that helps so much. Seeing her strength and realising yours, helps me carry on when my past horrors try to drag me back into some kind of depression. So I thank you for helping me, educating me and allowing me to share your story with others. You do not realise how much you help and also who you help, so far away.

Life is going forward and I smile everyday. There was a time when even that would have been impossible. I am not saying it is easy, but it is possible and that is what counts.

Sorry I have not been in touch for a while and thank you for all the funny pictures, I do appreciate them.
Take care my friend and I will be in touch soon.

Kind regards,
